Bacteria enters in the body of your pet from urinary opening and wait for debris and waste for multiplication and growth. Bacteria (most commonly E Coli bacterium) found in the urinary tract multiply, grow faster and at the end cause infection.

Dosage

Your pet veterinary doctor may suggest a metronidazole dosage for your puppy after seeing the condition. An Intravenous single dose of 15mg/kilogram weight is suggested dosage. Follow up 7.5mg/kg Oral dose (in the form of suspension) for 6 to 10 days.

For a female dog, Metronidazole Gel with applicators is also available in pharmacies. This type of dosage form is more suitable.

For severe infection, Intravenous dose is more suitable. High doses should be avoided, because high doses of metronidazole medication may result in some serious problems like cancer, tumors, etc (supported by recent animal study).
