When pressure of blood in arteries is increased and heart has to apply an extra power to push the blood in arteries. In this situation heart muscles contract and dilate forcefully so that oxygenated blood reach to the peripheral area of body. The pressure on the walls of arteries is called blood pressure or hypertension. This is a very serious condition. In this situation heart muscles can be damaged and they stop pumping blood which ultimately leads to HEART ATTACK or sudden death.
Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80. When blood pressure lies between 120/80 to 139/89, it indicates a high blood pressure condition. Blood pressure 140/90 and above is high blood pressure or hypertension.

In general the reasons of hypertension are unknown. Still there are certain elements and habits which we can connect with the causes of hypertension.
(1) Smoking
(2) Obesity
(3) Diabetes
(4) Excessive use of salt
(5) Lack of physical activities
(6) deficiency of vitamin D
(7) Heavy drinking alcohol
(8) Tension
(9) Age factor
(10) Use of contraceptives.

In general hypertension has no signs and symptoms. Therefore it is called a “silent killer”. Some time hypertensive patient shows the following signs & symptoms.
(1) Headache
(2) Nausea & vomiting
(3) Blur vision
